Freeways & Driving

Mission Valley has excellent freeway access โ€” it's one of the area's biggest advantages. Three major freeways converge here, making it easy to reach any part of San Diego quickly.

  • I-8 โ€” Runs east-west through Mission Valley. Take it west to the beaches (Ocean Beach, Mission Bay) or east toward Mission Trails and SDSU.
  • I-15 โ€” North-south freeway. Head north to Escondido/North County or south toward downtown and the border.
  • SR-163 โ€” Connects to Balboa Park and downtown. Scenic drive through the park.

Rush hour (7โ€“9 AM, 4โ€“7 PM weekdays) can slow things down on I-8 and I-15, but traffic in Mission Valley is generally more manageable than coastal or downtown routes.
