Do You Actually Need a Car?
A car is helpful for exploring the broader OB/Point Loma area but not strictly necessary if you stay central in Ocean Beach. Newport Avenue, Dog Beach, the OB Pier, and the main beach are all walkable from most OB vacation rentals.
If you want to visit Cabrillo National Monument, Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, or Shelter Island, a car makes things much easier. For trips to other San Diego neighborhoods like La Jolla or downtown, you can use Uber/Lyft.
โ Skip the car if...

- Focused on Dog Beach, OB Pier, and the main strand
- Comfortable with Uber/Lyft for occasional trips
