San Diego International Airport (SAN)
SAN is the only airport you need to think about. It's close, convenient, and well-connected to Pacific Beach.
The airport is right on the bay — you can see it from Mission Bay. There's no freeway slog or hour-long transfer. You land, grab your bags, and you're at the beach in under 20 minutes. That's one of the real advantages of staying in PB.
Do You Actually Need a Car?
The honest answer: probably not, if you're staying near the boardwalk and keeping your trip beach-focused. The PB/Mission Beach boardwalk connects everything walkable, bike rentals are everywhere, and Uber is cheap for short hops.
A car helps if you want to explore Mission Bay (it's spread out), do day trips to La Jolla, downtown, or Balboa Park, or if you're hauling gear for a group. But for a relaxed weekend on the beach, you can skip it.
